The Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) 2025 is an important national-level exam conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to determine the eligibility of candidates aspiring to become teachers for Classes 1 to 8 in government and private schools across India. The 21st edition of the CTET exam is expected to take place in December 2025, with the official notification and application forms likely to be released in August 2025 on the official CTET website ctet.nic.in. The exam will be conducted in offline mode (pen-and-paper-based) and will offer two papers: Paper 1 for those aspiring to teach Classes 1 to 5, and Paper 2 for aspirants targeting Classes 6 to 8 teaching positions.
CTET 2025 will feature 150 multiple-choice questions in each paper, with a total of 150 marks. Candidates will have 2 hours and 30 minutes to complete the exam. The marking scheme awards one mark for each correct answer, with no negative marking for wrong answers. The question papers will be bilingual, available in both English and Hindi. The exam subjects include Child Development and Pedagogy, Language-I, Language-II, Mathematics, and Environmental Studies for Paper 1. Paper 2 includes Child Development and Pedagogy, Language-I, Language-II, Mathematics & Science or Social Studies/Social Science, depending on the candidate’s teaching specialization.
Eligibility criteria vary for the two papers; for Paper 1, candidates must have passed a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education or its equivalent with at least 50% marks. The application fee is INR 1000 for General/OBC candidates and INR 500 for SC/ST/PwD candidates. The CTET certificate awarded to successful candidates is valid for seven years and is a mandatory qualification for teaching jobs in central government schools such as Kendriya Vidyalayas and Navodaya Vidyalayas, as well as many state government schools.
